Your profile on Gumboot Friday

When we developed Gumboot Friday, we found young people were connected more to profiles focusing on who the therapist is as a person and what it’s like to work with them. That's why we designed profiles around “About Me” and “Working Together”.

Here are some tips to help you create a great profile:

Be Welcoming: Use a warm, friendly tone to make young people feel comfortable and heard.

Keep It Simple: Avoid clinical jargon; use everyday language.

Add Personal Touches: Small things about you and your journey help young people connect with you.

Don’t Double Up: Your age groups, therapies, and issues treated are already in your profile – don't double up.

Check for Errors: Ensure your profile is free of spelling and grammar mistakes.

Your 'About me' section

This section is all about who you are and your background.

The goal of the “About Me” section is to help young people see if they can relate to you. You might want to include:

  • Who you are
  • Why this work matters to you
  • A bit about your personal journey, if you’re comfortable sharing
  • Where you come from
  • Why you enjoy a particular hobby

Your 'Working together' section

This section focuses on what it’s like to work with you. The goal is to show young people what to expect to feel and do in their first session with you. You could include:

  • What a young person can expect from their first session with you
  • How you hope to make them feel during the session
  • Your enthusiasm and excitement about working with them
  • You can also mention other important details like special services or practice days, but the main focus should be on the experience of working together.

Your photo

A good photo for your profile picture can ensure you make a great first impression. I Am Hope accepts the following types of photos for the platform:

  1. A clear, centered headshot of yourself with shoulders visible.
  2. No added writing, pictures, or frames.
  3. Reasonably high resolution.

If you’re unable to display a photo of yourself due to work in sensitive areas, such as family violence, please let us know.

Here’s an example of updating working together:

APC Troubles?

We can’t approve practitioners without a current, valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) from their Board or Association. To upload or update your APC, follow the steps in the “How do I edit my Application” section.

If your APC is delayed through no fault of your own, but your board has given you permission to practice, you can ask them to clarify this with us directly.

Our expectations

You can read our Terms and Support guide to better understand our expectations and services. Here are the 8 most important DOs for Gumboot Friday:

DO:

  1. List yourself publicly and accept referrals regularly.
  2. Respond to referrals within 2 working days, even if you decline.
  3. Update the “status” of requests as you work through them.
  4. Be prudent with the fund when requesting additional sessions or uploading clients – it’s limited.
  5. Keep current and accurate information on the platform. Updating requests and sessions are essential to run the system smoothly.
  6. Never book retrospective sessions or offer Gumboot Friday sessions you have not applied for. These may not be funded.
  7. Offer sessions at or under the availability you set on the platform. Delist yourself if unavailable such as being sick, on leave, or overbooked.
  8. Check the Support Page for issues first to help I Am Hope focus on improvements and fundraising.
